“What’s your best price?” is usually the first question in an aluminium composite panel inquiry — and the least useful one. Not because price does not matter, but because a bare number per square meter is almost impossible to compare intelligently. Two quotes for “ACP panel 4mm” can differ by a wide margin and both be correct, because they are not describing the same product.

The five factors that set ACP panel pricing
1. Aluminum skin thickness
The skins are the most expensive raw material in the panel. A 4mm panel with 0.5mm skins contains dramatically more aluminum than a 4mm panel with 0.2mm skins, and it is priced accordingly. If one quote is much lower than the others, check this first — thin skins are the most common way to hit a target price.
2. Core type
PE cores are the economical baseline. Mineral-filled flame-retardant cores cost more because of the mineral content and the testing behind them. The right comparison is never “PE price vs FR price” — it is “which core does my building code require,” then price that core across suppliers.
3. Coating system
Interior-grade polyester finishes, exterior PVDF coatings and special finishes (wood-grain, brushed, mirror) sit at different price levels. Matching the coating to the environment avoids paying for exterior-grade performance indoors — or under-specifying a coastal facade to save a little.
4. Order quantity and panel dimensions
Panel production runs efficiently at length. Standard sizes from stock are cheaper than short runs of custom lengths, and full container quantities price better than mixed pallets. If your project can standardize on fewer panel sizes, the unit price drops without touching quality.
5. Trade terms and logistics
FOB, CIF and DDP quotes contain very different scopes. A “cheap” FOB price plus expensive destination charges can cost more than a higher DDP quote. Compare the landed cost per square meter at your site, not the invoice line.
How to compare quotes like-for-like
Put these five lines into every RFQ and require every supplier to fill them in:
- Total panel thickness and aluminum skin thickness per side
- Core type (PE / mineral-filled FR) and its fire classification document
- Coating system (polyester / PVDF) and warranty terms
- Sheet dimensions, quantity, and protective film specification
- Trade term (FOB / CIF / DDP) and delivery lead time
With those five lines filled, price differences become explainable — and negotiations become honest. A supplier who will not fill in the lines is telling you something.
Where the real savings are
Experienced buyers save money in three places that do not touch quality:
- Standardizing dimensions: fewer custom lengths means better production runs and less cutting waste on site.
- Right-sizing the specification: exterior FR core where the code requires it, economical PE core for interior cassettes and signage — not FR everywhere, and not PE anywhere the code forbids it.
- Total cost of ownership: a panel with proper skins and PVDF coating that looks good in year ten is cheaper than a bargain panel that needs re-cladding in year five.
