PMI Foam Sandwich Panel
Polymethacrylimide (PMI) foam sandwich panels feature a cross-linked rigid structural foam core with 100% closed-cell architecture. The foam delivers exceptional compressive strength and rigidity across customizable density ranges, accommodating applications from standard industrial use to aerospace-grade projects requiring performance under extreme stress.
The material withstands temperatures from 180°C to 240°C, maintaining dimensional stability during high-temperature curing processes like Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) without significant creep. Its closed-cell structure provides inherent moisture resistance, preventing water ingress while ensuring compatibility with diverse resins and superior dielectric properties.
PMI foam combines lightweight characteristics with structural integrity, contributing to improved fuel efficiency in transportation applications. The panels serve aerospace applications including aircraft fuselage panels, wing sections, and rotor blades; marine applications such as hulls, decks, and bulkheads; automotive structural elements; wind turbine blades; medical imaging equipment; and high-performance sporting goods.
The foam supports Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, thermal molding, and vacuum infusion processes including RTM and Vacuum-Assisted Resin Transfer Molding (VARTM). Pre-formed cores integrate directly into complex geometries, facilitating efficient manufacturing. The Freon-free composition meets fire resistance standards such as Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 25.853 while demonstrating resistance to high humidity and extreme temperatures.
