PP Honeycomb Core
PP Honeycomb Core combines polypropylene into hexagonal cellular structures that deliver consistent shear properties in all directions. The lightweight core includes non-woven polyester scrim for enhanced surface bonding and optional barrier films to control resin absorption during manufacturing.
The material provides high strength-to-weight ratios with resistance to moisture, corrosion, chemicals, and temperature extremes from -40°F to 230°F. Available thicknesses range from 0.25 to 24 inches, with densities from 2.5 to 12.0 pounds per cubic foot (pcf). Standard sheet sizes reach 48″ x 96″, with some manufacturers offering panels up to 1,400mm wide and 12,000mm long.
Mechanical properties include 275 psi compressive strength, 85 psi shear strength, and low thermal conductivity (k-value 0.03). The core demonstrates minimal water absorption under 0.10% over 24 hours and functions effectively for sound dampening and energy absorption.
Applications span marine decks and bulkheads, wind power nacelles and blades, rail floors and partitions, plus industrial tooling and covers. Compatible with thermoforming, vacuum infusion, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining, and various lamination techniques, the fully recyclable core integrates into sandwich panels through thermal or adhesive bonding methods.
