PET (polyethylene terephthalate) Foam Core is a closed-cell, thermoplastic structural core made from 100% recyclable material, including post-consumer and post-industrial recycled PET. It offers a balance of mechanical performance, low weight, and environmental sustainability for composite sandwich structures.
The closed-cell structure delivers solid compressive, tensile, and shear strength together with good fatigue and impact resistance. Low resin uptake and minimal water absorption keep production costs down and support long-term durability, while the material holds its dimensions across normal processing conditions.
PET foam is stable at processing temperatures of 150-180°C, with select grades tolerating short peaks up to 220°C without outgassing or expansion. It resists moisture and common chemicals, and fire-retardant (FR) grades are available where halogen-free, self-extinguishing performance is required.
Available in densities from 80 to 300 kg/m³ and thicknesses from 3 to 200 mm, PET Foam Core is widely used in wind energy, marine, transportation, and construction. It is compatible with vacuum infusion, RTM/VARTM, prepreg, and compression molding, machines easily, and provides reliable screw retention for assembly.
